Cervical Screening Awareness Week: 19–24 June 2025
Cervical Screening Awareness Week runs from 19th to 24th June, shining a light on the importance of regular cervical screening for women’s health.
Cervical cancer is the most common cancer in women under the age of 35, with two women losing their lives to the disease every day in the UK. Yet, with regular screening, up to 75% of cervical cancer cases can be prevented.
Despite this, around 1 in 4 women do not attend when invited for screening.
Cervical screening (previously known as a smear test) checks for high-risk HPV, a virus that causes the vast majority of cervical cancers. If HPV is found, the sample is then checked for any cell changes so that they can be monitored or treated before cancer has a chance to develop.
This awareness week is not only about encouraging more women to attend their cervical screening, but also providing reassurance and clear information about the process. It’s quick – often taking less than 5 minutes – and could be lifesaving.
We have cervical screening appointments available between 08:10 and 18:00, making it easier to fit around your day.
If you’re due a screening or think you might be overdue, please contact reception.
Your health matters. Take the time – it could save your life.
